The Swapo Party held its internal elections across several Kavango West districts last Saturday, with winning candidates now set to represent the party in the upcoming regional and local authority elections slated for 26 November.

In Kapako district, Augustinus Kupembona emerged victorious, securing 120 votes to defeat long-serving party member Johannes Karondo, who managed 52 votes.

Speaking to Network Media Hub on Saturday, Kupembona said it had been a "rough" process, but necessary, with a particular focus on encouraging citizens to get involved and interested in politics.

Kupembona praised the level of voter participation in Kapako, crediting both youth and elders for their involvement.

“It does not matter your age – what matters is participation and involvement in what is happening in your district. It’s your responsibility,” he added.

In other constituencies, Ncuncuni saw Leopoldine Nseu win with 33 votes, ahead of Thomas Ndara (25 votes), Nekaro Veiko (5), and Sylvia Siwiyo (3). In Ncamagoro, Thomas Rengi topped the poll with 38 votes, edging out Sirrka Kapanga, who received 31.

Musese constituency saw Emma Hausiku claim victory with 48 votes, beating Kosmas Katura, who garnered 40. Meanwhile, in Tondoro, incumbent Joseph Sivaku retained his seat, as did Tenga Fillipus in Nkurenkuru and Shiudifonya Titus in Mpungu constituency.

Looking ahead, Kupembona said the focus will be on strengthening support and mobilising voters.

“In Swapo, nobody is a loser or a winner, but there is a will. It has to be confirmed by November 26,” he said.

The supplementary registration of voters (SRV) is scheduled for 4 to 19 August, followed by the publication of the final voters’ register from 24 to 25 October, ahead of election day.

As for the Nkurenkuru local authority, the following individuals were elected to represent the party during the regional and local authority elections: Agatha Muhepa, Theresia Itaho, Kaveto Engelbertha, Andreas Kantanga, Philip Sepuka, Toivo Kakoro, and Roberth Katura.
