Otjiwarongo municipality avails land
Twenty-four general workers of the municipality and two community volunteers have been tasked to fence off the area.
The Otjiwarongo municipality has identified a portion of land earmarked for its first official taxi rank that would cater for short and long-distance transport operators at the town.
The municipality's public relations officer, Adelheid Shilongo, mentioned that Otjiwarongo does not have an official designated taxi rank and the more than 3 000 square metre portion of land for the new taxi rank is situated near the crocodile farm at the town.
“Otjiwarongo is full of taxis loading and offloading people wherever they want, which makes the town look bad,” she said.
A total of N$50 000 as an emergency budget for the project has been released by the municipality and would be used for compacting land there and building of toilets, added Shilongo.

The project, Shilongo said, kicked off with the clearing of the area in July this year and is expected to be completed in September 2020.
Several bus loadmasters at the town welcomed the idea, saying at the moment passengers are normally loaded and offloaded on the street, which is not safe for them when crossing the roads.
John Chimbango, a long-distance bus loadmaster on Monday said the idea is long overdue and needs to be supported by all operators.
“We welcome their initiative, as that area they identified is also situated near the informal traders who are operating there for many years,” said Petrus Kapitara, also a bus loadmaster.– Nampa
