Hardap Governor, Esme Sophia Isaack, her driver and a passenger survived a car accident on Monday evening as the BMW they were travelling in hit a Toyota pick-up which was crossing the road.
Deputy Commissioner Naomi Katjiua of the Oshikoto police told Namibian Sun the incident took place around 17:58 near the Oshifukwa village on the Ondangwa-Omuthiya main road.
Isaack was travelling from Oshakati after she attended the official opening of the 2016 Namibian Local Authorities’ Sport and Recreation Association (Nalasra) Games which are held at the Oshakati Independence Stadium.
Katjiua said Isaack and 60-year-old Paul Muviaro, who were both passengers in the government BMW, were admitted at the Ongwediva MediPark Private Hospital in Ongwediva after they sustained minor injuries while the 35-year-old driver, David Adam Kooper, sustained no injuries.
The driver of the Toyota pick-up, 60-year-old, Fillipus Kamati Namupala is in a critical condition while his passenger 61-year-old Shuudi Simon Sheya sustained head injuries but is in a stable condition.
Katjiua said the two pensioners were admitted to the Omuthiya hospital and were later transferred to the Oshakati State Hospital.
Cases of reckless and or negligent driving were opened against both drivers.
