Fatal crashes mar weekend
A fatal head-on-crash south of Kalkrand late on Friday night claimed the lives of at least three persons and injured 11 others the Namibian police confirmed over the weekend.
Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi confirmed on Saturday that the accident took place 25 kilometres south of Kalkrand at around 21:00 on Friday night.
It is alleged that a Toyota Quantum pulling a trailer collided head-on with an Audi.
The driver of the Audi, 52-year-old Johan Keven Forbes, and his passenger, Johannes Penda Angolo (36) died at the scene, while a passenger in the Quantum, Fransisco Fabian Kaptein (34), also died instantly.
It was reported that Forbes was a well-respected firefighter.
Shikwambi said 11 others were injured and a case of culpable homicide is being investigated.
Another car crash was reported on Friday which took place on the C39 gravel route between Outjo and Otavi, in which reportedly one person died, in addition to a fatal crash on the B2 around 10 kilometres from Arandis towards Usakos on Saturday night in which a truck allegedly veered off the road in a bend and overturned. The cab reportedly caught fire soon after.
No further details on the number of fatalities or cause of the accidents could be obtained by the time of going to print.
