Accident at Eenhana kills five
Five people, including a pensioner and a baby, died in an accident at Eenhana in the Ohangwena Region on Sunday.
A police spokesperson, Inspector Slogan Matheus, said the accident occurred around 15:00 when a Toyota bakkie collided head-on with a sedan.
The sedan had six occupants, five of whom died on the spot, while the bakkie’s only occupant was the driver.
The bakkie driver allegedly tried to overtake the vehicle in front of him when he crashed into the sedan that was coming from the opposite direction. He sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the Oshakati State Hospital, along with the only surviving occupant of the sedan, identified as Emilia Iipinge.
The deceased are Josef Ndemumana, who was the driver of the sedan; Rachel Paulus (54); Meriam Shapange (age unknown); Fransina Nghikufilwa (61); and baby Grace Nangolo, whose exact age is not known.
Matheus said their next of kin have been informed.
A case of culpable homicide has been opened against the driver of the bakkie.
