Q: What does it take to build a successful career in journalism, and what have your nine years in the industry taught you?A: A successful journalism career requires persistence, curiosity, adaptability and accuracy. Nine years taught me journalism requires learning. Most importantly, credibility takes years to build but can be lost quickly.Q: In your experience, what qualities are most important for someone entering the media industry today?A: Curiosity, resilience, adaptability and communication are essential. Young journalists must ask questions, verify information and understand digital platforms. Social media matters, but technology cannot replace clear writing, proper research and responsible journalism.Q: How have different areas of reporting shaped your approach to storytelling?A: Working across investigative, youth-focused and digital media taught me stories need different approaches. Investigative reporting strengthened my research skills, youth media taught me accessibility, and digital work helped me understand audiences.Q: What are some of the challenges young journalists face when starting out, and how can they prepare themselves for the realities of the industry?A: Young journalists face pressure, deadlines and limited experience. They can prepare by learning from experienced journalists, taking assignments seriously and developing digital skills. Reliability and professionalism build reputation.Q: With social media and digital platforms changing how people consume news, what does it take for journalists to remain relevant while maintaining journalistic integrity?A: Journalists must adapt to digital platforms without compromising fairness. Social media rewards speed, but being first should never matter more than being correct. Remaining relevant means understanding technology while resisting misinformation.Q: What role do you believe continuous learning plays in building a lasting career in journalism and media?A: Continuous learning is essential because the media keeps changing. I continued studying to strengthen my academic knowledge and develop new skills for my newsroom experience. Learning also happens through colleagues and mistakes.Q: You are currently pursuing a bachelor of journalism and media technology at NUST. What motivated you to further your studies while already having several years of professional experience?A: I returned to university to build on my journalism experience and strengthen my academic knowledge. As a mother, I want my daughter to see that women can pursue ambitions, continue learning and create opportunities. I want her to understand that motherhood does not mean giving up on dreams. I hope my journey shows her that women can do anything.Q: You recently travelled to Germany through the Erasmus+ Scholarship programme. What does an opportunity like this mean to you professionally and personally?A: The Erasmus+ opportunity broadened my perspective. Studying in Germany has exposed me to a different education system and media environment. It has strengthened my independence and confidence, giving me perspectives to bring back to Namibia.Q: What advice would you give to young Namibians who want to pursue careers in journalism, media or communications?A: My advice is to start before you feel ready. Write, produce, volunteer, intern and learn. Remain interested in people's experiences and communities. Be reliable, meet deadlines and stay willing to learn.Q: If you could give your younger self one piece of advice about building a career in media, what would it be?A: I would tell my younger self not to fear growth or change. Have confidence and take opportunities. Nine years taught me careers are built through stories, lessons and opportunities. Stay curious and keep learning.
