Hardap region focused on community well-being, development projects

Multimillion-dollar development projects underway
Among the region's top-priority development projects is the construction of service infrastructure at the Slip settlement at a cost of N$7.9 million.

The Hardap Regional Council is making significant progress in improving infrastructure across the region, with projects worth millions currently under way to address urgent community needs.

This was announced by regional governor Riaan McNab during his State of the Region address on Wednesday.

Topping the list is the ongoing construction of service infrastructure at the Slip settlement, valued at N$7.9 million. The project aims to improve access to basic services and create a more structured and liveable environment.

Other key initiatives include the N$404 million rehabilitation of oxidation ponds in !Hoachanas, the construction of interlock paved roads at a cost of N$1 million, and the building of rural toilets worth N$2.6 million.

Social upliftment

The regional council has also prioritised upliftment projects for residents, with N$346 000 invested in community well-being and social programmes, the governor said.

HIV prevention initiatives received N$360 000.

Contractors completed the construction and connection of houses to the main water line during the reporting period.

McNab also reported that electrification efforts have progressed well in the region. The communities of Klein Aub and Soutput were electrified during the year under review, directly benefiting 182 residents.

“The results we are seeing are a product of teamwork between government, regional leaders, communities and contractors. Let us build on this momentum,” the governor concluded.
