The urban and rural development ministry has directed the Nkurenkuru Town Council to halt its recruitment process for a new CEO until further notice.

This is according to a document shared with Namibian Sun last Friday.

Town council spokesperson Saara Muushongo confirmed the directive.

“I’m saying the advert closed on the 2nd of November, but now we received a communication from minister James Sankwasa that we should keep it on hold until further notice," she said.

The vacancy, which was advertised following former council CEO Petrus Sindimba’s move to the urban and rural development ministry, was meant to close around 2 November.

Sindimba, who officially assumed his new role at the ministry last week, was Nkurenkuru’s founding CEO and served in that capacity for 18 years.

He was also the town’s longest-serving executive, having overseen its growth and administrative development since its proclamation in 2006.

The decision to suspend the recruitment process is reportedly linked to the upcoming regional and local authority elections scheduled for 26 November, after which further administrative decisions are expected to be made.
