Trade, investment workshop launched in Swakopmund

A five-day intensive training on crucial aspects of trade policy, competitiveness analysis and investment strategies began in Swakopmund this week. At the opening of the event, industrialisation and trade ministry executive director Sikongo Haihambo said Namibia, with its small population of three million people, recognises the pivotal role of foreign trade and investment in driving economic growth. Haihambo emphasised the importance of enhancing capacity and skills in various areas of trade and investment to maximise benefits from international agreements. “Namibia relies on foreign trade and foreign direct investment to sustain and accelerate its economic growth,” he said.The workshop is aimed at equipping governmental and private sector stakeholders with the necessary expertise to strengthen Namibia&#039;s export competitiveness and influence trade agreements effectively. Participants are set to delve into critical topics such as trade policy analysis, investment strategies and statistical methods essential for informed decision-making.Haihambo said the workshop, organised in collaboration with the European Union, builds upon a financing agreement signed in 2020 that is focused on enhancing Namibia&#039;s competitiveness in key value chains."Specifically, this training aligns with the objective of enabling private sector operators to leverage opportunities arising from Economic Partnership Agreements (EPA)."
