SHORTS: Bail denied for alleged Kavango serial rapist
A 20-year-old man accused of raping a 68-year-old woman in Dingandu village, Kavango East, has been denied bail following his appearance in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court last Thursday.
Kativa Johannes Kamanga was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the brutal attack, during which he allegedly stalked the elderly woman before dragging her into the bushes and raping her.
The state opposed bail, citing Kamanga’s previous involvement in two other rape cases — one in 2021, when he was 16, and another in 2023, at the age of 18.
Disturbing revelations emerged during the court proceedings, suggesting Kamanga may have deliberately targeted elderly women and used multiple identities to evade detection. Police allege that in 2021, he was arrested under the name Joseph Mukuyungo, and again in 2023 under his current name in connection with a separate rape case in Ndiyona.
Given the gravity of the charges and his alleged criminal pattern, the court ordered that Kamanga remain in custody. He is scheduled to appear again on 16 October 2025.
