Police are investigating the murder of Michael Pieters (35) in Rehoboth, who died after he was stabbed in the chest during an altercation in Block E on Friday night.

Police said the incident reportedly followed an attempted robbery, after which the suspect stabbed the man and fled the scene.

This is according to the latest crime briefing issued by the Namibian Police outlining incidents reported over the past weekend.

Meanwhile, a 20-year-old man was arrested on a charge of attempted murder following a stabbing incident at Ekulo village in Omuthiya on Saturday evening.

The victim, a 36-year-old man, was allegedly stabbed with an okapi knife after an argument broke out while the two were drinking home-brewed alcohol.

The victim remains hospitalised and is receiving medical treatment.

In Oshakati, a 48-year-old man was arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a 17-year-old girl at Omahenene location on Friday afternoon.

The suspect, who is a neighbour of the victim, allegedly forced the girl to accompany him to his house, where the rape occurred. He remains in police custody while the investigation continues.

Several drug-related arrests were also recorded across the country.

In Lüderitz, a suspect was arrested after police allegedly discovered cannabis buried in the ground at Spokiesdorp. Later the same day, two men were arrested at a police station after allegedly attempting to smuggle cannabis hidden in food.

In Khorixas, a 34-year-old woman was arrested after cannabis was allegedly discovered in a parcel inside a vehicle during a search. Another suspect was arrested along the Kamanjab–Outjo C40 road after police allegedly found cannabis and mandrax tablets in his possession.

In Keetmanshoop, a 26-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly attempted to dispose of mandrax tablets and cannabis by throwing them out.

Police further recorded several property-related crimes. Two housebreaking incidents were reported in the Ondangwa area early on Saturday morning.

In Ongwediva, suspects allegedly gained entry through a bedroom window and stole a cellphone and two laptops. In a separate incident in Olunkono, jewellery, electrical equipment and shoes were stolen after suspects allegedly entered a house through an unlocked door.

In Windhoek’s Brakwater area, suspects broke into business premises and allegedly stole a safe and company documents. Police are also investigating the theft of a Toyota bakkie and household items from a house in Oshandubala village, which had reportedly been unoccupied for a prolonged period.

In Kavango West, a 38-year-old woman was found dead in a suspected suicide at a village in the Mpungu constituency. No foul play is suspected, and no suicide note was left behind.

In a separate suspected suicide, a 28-year-old man was found dead at a residence in Windhoek’s Otjomuise area.
