As Namibia inches closer to the presidential and National Assembly elections, a unique event promises to bring a fresh perspective to the national discourse.

The Windhoek Comedy Festival and Comedy Hour are joining forces for the first time to present ‘Political Punchlines: A Namibian Election Comedy Show.’ This groundbreaking night of laughter and political satire is set to take place on Sunday, 24 November, at the Village Opera House at 19:00.

Hosted by Namibia’s beloved comedic force 'Slick The Dick', the event will feature a line-up of the nation’s top comedians, including Iileka, Zita, Lifa, Axarob and Mark Kariahuua. Together, they aim to merge humour with hard-hitting insights into the political landscape, offering a night that’s as thought-provoking as it is entertaining.

Mark Kariahuua, one of the event’s organisers and performers, describes the show as a unique platform to engage Namibian youth with the upcoming elections. “We’re trying to highlight serious issues with a comedy twist,” he explained. Kariahuua sees comedy as a powerful tool to foster awareness, provoke thoughtand spark meaningful conversations about the future of the nation.

The line-up, he said, reflects Namibia’s diversity.

“With the elections coming up, it was key to highlight different Namibians but also show how we are all the same. We tried to strike a balance between talent and representation,” Kariahuua noted. This eclectic mix ensures that no matter the audience’s background, they’ll find something relatable – and hilariously on point – in the performances.
