Laughter echoed through the halls of the Franco Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC) on Thursday evening, as the latest edition of the Savanna Comedy Hour brought together some of Namibia's most entertaining comedians for an unforgettable battle between the OGs and the New Gs.

The showcase saw veteran comedians go head-to-head with rising stars, delivering a mix of personal stories, social commentary and everyday struggles turned into laugh-out-loud moments.

Representing Team New School were Funny Jones and award-winning Angolan-born comedian Dangote.

Dangote had the audience in stitches as he shared his journey of being diagnosed with polio at the age of three and navigating life in a wheelchair. Through humour, he recounted some of the unexpected and often hilarious situations he has encountered along the way.

Team Old School brought plenty of firepower to the stage. 'Jar Jar' captivated the crowd with stories about her struggles with being “scroefed” (dribbled) and the lessons she learned while navigating the streets of Windhoek. She also offered women some tongue-in-cheek advice on surviving the city's dating scene and avoiding notorious dribblers.

Courage the Comedian kept the momentum going with his trademark humour, joking about his fear of supporting Bafana Bafana, who might accuse him of stealing their jobs. He also took his usual comedic jab at life as a Zimbabwean living in another country, sharing amusing encounters and observations that resonated with the audience.

Nurturing comedy talent

With Savanna flowing smoothly, the laughter was non-stop, and the atmosphere was filled with joy and celebration. The monthly comedy showcase continues to attract growing support from local audiences, with the next edition scheduled for 2 July.

Beyond the laughs, Savanna Comedy Hour remains committed to creating opportunities for both established and emerging comedians. The platform aims to strengthen Namibia’s comedy ecosystem by nurturing talent and fostering collaboration within the industry.

Through its recent partnership with Tjil, Savanna Comedy Hour is also expanding its digital footprint, helping showcase local comedy talent to audiences across the country while continuing to deliver premium entertainment experiences.
