Woman dies in Angolan police escape attempt

A woman died after the car she was travelling in overturned at Onambunga village in Angola on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Omusati Region police spokesperson, Commissioner Moses Simaho, a silver Toyota bakkie - which was transporting 19 plastic containers of petrol - was travelling from Angola to Namibia.
At Onambunga village, the driver was intercepted by Angolan police on patrol. When the driver tried to turn back to Angola to evade the police, he lost control of the vehicle.
In the process, the passenger - the deceased Hilma Tashiya Amadhila (44) - was thrown from the vehicle and sustained serious injuries.
Amadhila, who hails from Oshiteyatemo village, was transported to Onandjaba Health Centre, where she was declared dead upon arrival.
“It is further alleged that the driver fled the scene on foot and went to Onandjaba Health Centre for treatment. He is currently admitted at Oshikuku Catholic Hospital in a stable condition,” Simaho said.
