Volunteer teachers claim losing out on permanent jobs

Several former volunteer teachers at Ndama East School in Rundu are up in arms, claiming they were overlooked for permanent positions after the school’s formal recognition by the government last year. One of them, Kambinda Eugene, says that of the 21 teaching vacancies advertised in 2025, only 2 of the 14 volunteer teachers were appointed. Despite volunteering at the school since 2023 and holding an honours degree in Social Studies from the University of Namibia, Eugene says he is now unemployed. “Imagine volunteering for three years and then being told you do not qualify to teach at the same school,” he said. Former volunteers say they have received no clear communication on whether they will be considered for future opportunities.
