Tyre burst allegedly caused fatal accident

A tyre burst, according to police, led to a fatal rollover on a gravel road between Usakos and Henties Bay on Saturday, killing a 19-year-old passenger and injuring several others.
The incident occurred approximately 62 kilometres from Henties Bay.
According to Erongo police spokesperson Senior Inspector Judith Shomongula, the white bakkie was carrying 17 passengers, in addition to the driver. The group was identified as a soccer team travelling from Usakos to Henties Bay. The vehicle’s left rear tyre reportedly burst, causing it to swerve left and right before overturning.
Seven passengers sustained injuries ranging from serious to slight. They were transported by private vehicles to the Henties Bay Clinic and later transferred to Swakopmund State Hospital.
Nineteen-year-old Romario Petrus Narib succumbed to his injuries upon arrival at the clinic. His next of kin has been informed.
The police have opened a case of reckless or negligent driving and culpable homicide.
