SHORT NEWS: Traditional leaders rise against secessionists' demo

Some concerned residents of the Zambezi Region on Monday staged a peaceful demonstration in Katima Mulilo, calling on government to intervene and stop a planned gathering by the United Democratic Party scheduled for Wednesday. Leaders of the region’s four Traditional Authorities attended the demonstration and added their voices in opposition to the planned event, warning that such a gathering could undermine the peace and stability the country has enjoyed for years. The protest comes amid heightened tensions in the region, following several incidents in recent months in which members of the banned United Democratic Party were temporarily detained and later released after holding unauthorised demonstrations and meetings in Katima Mulilo.
