President directs ministries to budget for internships
The President of Namibia, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, has directed all offices, ministries and agencies to allocate budgets for internships and apprenticeship programmes aimed at tackling graduate unemployment.
Speaking at the Unam graduation ceremony yesterday, the President said the initiative is designed to equip graduates with practical work experience and ease their transition into the labour market. Under the programme, government institutions are expected to recruit graduate interns to gain industry exposure, while the private sector has been urged to join. “I call upon the private sector to join hands with the government and make this programme a success,” the President said.
