Multiple drownings reported across Namibia
The Namibian Police have recorded multiple drowning incidents across different regions of Namibia over the past few days, prompting renewed calls for caution during the rainfall season.
A 37-year-old man, Salomo Homateni Akudhenga, was found dead in a water pan near Okamwandi King service station in Ondando village, Oniipa constituency. Akudhenga was last seen intoxicated and drinking Omagongo (marula drinks) at the Olumbongo location on the night of 21 March. After being reported missing on 22 March, family members discovered his body floating in the pan the following morning. The body was transported to Onandjokwe State Hospital for an autopsy.
In another case, the decomposed body of 20-year-old Vivien Hamaseb was found stuck on a tree in a river near Lekkerwater Settlement Farm, Kamdescha, on 23 March.
Hamaseb reportedly left for a neighbouring farm on 18 March but never arrived. No foul play is suspected, and a postmortem will determine the cause of death.

A 24-year-old Angolan man, who worked as a goat herder, was found drowned in a waterhole in Otjiperengo village, Sesfontein area, after going missing on 22 March. Search efforts by villagers led to the discovery of his clothes near the waterhole, and his body was retrieved the following day. His next of kin have not yet been informed, and investigations continue.
In Orutjandja location, Opuwo, another Angolan man, identified as Kauendera Ruvandu, drowned while attempting to cross a river during heavy rains on 23 March. His body was recovered, and no foul play is suspected. His next of kin have been informed, and a postmortem will determine the cause of death.
Authorities urge the public to exercise caution around rivers and dams, especially during the rainy season, and report missing persons immediately.
