Ministry can't fund critical infrastructure - Steenkamp
Education minister Sanet Steenkamp said a reduced capital budget has left the ministry unable to fund critical regional and infrastructure needs. Speaking during an engagement with the parliamentary standing committee on education last week, Steenkamp warned that, for the first time in the ministry’s history, no funds can be allocated to decentralised regions or for priorities such as innovation, classrooms, laboratories and libraries. She said these responsibilities have now shifted to the National Planning Commission under the government’s decongestion plan.
