Mandatory dashcams proposed amid spike in fatal crashes
SHORT NEWS
During a media briefing this week on the alarming rise in motor vehicle accidents, minister of works and transport, Veikko Nekundi, revealed that the ministry plans to introduce mandatory dashboard cameras (dashcams) in all private and public vehicles.
“The use of dashcams is intended to provide objective evidence to identify and address reckless driving behaviour, thereby enhancing public safety on Namibian roads,” Nekundi said.
The announcement comes as Namibia recorded 2 793 road crashes, 431 fatalities and 4 565 injuries between January and 10 November 2025 – a 22% increase in fatalities compared with the same period in 2024. The festive season has already seen multiple deadly accidents across the country.
