JUST IN: Man dies in glider accident
The glider of Joern Steinbeck (54) yesterday crashed around 14:30 at Camp 15 near Rehoboth.
He died on the scene.
According to the Namibian Police, Steinbeck was the only passenger in the glider, while his wife drove the vehicle which enabled the glider to take off.
The deceased, his wife and a friend from Germany visited Camp 15 to fly the glider. They apparently got parts of the glider from another man. They assembled the craft at the camping site and prepared it for the flight.
According to the police, the glider was attached to the vehicle by a control mechanism. The glider was then pulled by the vehicle and detached automatically when it reached a certain height.
