5 die in plane crash
Four members of a German family and a South African pilot were killed when a Scenic Air plane crashed into the Zambezi River at Impalila Island at around 12:00 yesterday, police have confirmed.
The tourists were staying in the Chobe Water Villas and were set to fly from there to the airport at Rundu.
This according to veteran pilot and plane crash investigator in the works and transport ministry, Oskar Plichta.
A Scenic Air spokesperson refused to comment on the incident.
Deputy commissioner Joseph Nehemiah, the police's head of operations in the Zambezi Region, told Namibian Sun’s sister publication Republikein that a team of police officers were on the scene, and confirmed that all five occupants had died.
