PDM Youth League eyes Unam branch

The PDM Youth League plans to open a branch on the University of Namibia (Unam) main campus that will allow students to have direct access to the party's office.

This comes after the party realised that the safety of the students at Unam was not always highlighted.

According to PDMYL chairperson Inajovandu Katjepunda, the party chose Unam for the branch location because their primary focus is the youth and their safety.

"We want to spread the knowledge of youth in politics and most importantly the urgency of young people to step up and take part in decision-making.

“The PDMYL branch at Unam will fight for the security and safety of the Unam students while coming up with activities such as sports days to enhance the talents of our students," Katjepunda said.

Katjepunda added that after the party failed to conclude its elective congress, the leadership demographic does not look so different this time around.

"Bensen Katjiriova and deputy chairperson Felicia Motinga were removed primarily because of their age and secondarily because they hold positions within the mother body. Katjiriova is the secretary of mobilisation and Motinga of gender, therefore, they play integral roles within the party and the plans moving forward," she said.

She said a working committee has since been established to oversee the restructuring process, which is due to begin later this year.

Although the party plans on opening the new office before the end of April, Katjepunda very vaguely said that the new branch will focus on combating youth unemployment, youth and innovation, youth in business, and will try to mitigate the problems faced by the youth.
