A DECADE OF YOUTH EMPOWERMENT

A DECADE OF YOUTH EMPOWERMENT: When Network Media Hub (NMH)'s youth-centred brand, My Zone, marked its 10-year-anniversary on 12 February, all celebrations were postponed out of respect for the late founding president Dr Sam Nujoma. However, this dynamic group commemorated its 10th anniversary on Wednesday. What began in 2015 as the NMH School Newspaper Project has since evolved into a youth news brand that now includes 58 school newspapers, nine TV programmes, and various special broadcasts covering events such as matric farewells, matric results, e-sports, and a virtual career expo. It also produces two weekly publications.

Rivaldo Kavanga, a final-year law student and former My Zone intern, said: “Young people don’t have the experience to enter rooms where important discussions take place. And even if you do, there's often a bouncer stopping you from getting in. We just need people willing to give the youth a chance,” he said, highlighting My Zone's potential to give young people a foothold in the workforce.
