More rain, but no dam inflows yet

The Namibia Meteorological Services have warned that heavy rainstorms are likely to occur this weekend in the north-east, east and central areas of the country.
While Namibia has received some welcome rains since last weekend, there has not yet been any inflow recorded into the country’s dams for this rainy season.
According to NamWater’s latest dam bulletin issued on Monday, the average level of Namibia’s dams stood at 76%, compared to the 77.9% of last season.
Five of the storage dams in the country are still more than 80% full.
In the central areas of Namibia, the average dam levels stood at 86.7% this week, compared to last season’s 89.6%.
In the south, the average level of the dams was 85%, just 1% less than last season’s 84%.
The three largest dams in the country – the Hardap, Neckartal and Naute – are 57%, 96.4% and 86.9% full respectively.
Last season, Hardap was 55% full, Neckartal 95.1% and Naute 86.5%.
In the east of the country, the total average of the dam levels is 18%, while last season it was 31.6%.
