Cold weekend ahead
Windy, wet and cold conditions are expected in the //Karas Region as from today, becoming very cold in the south, central and eastern parts over the weekend.
The Namibia Meteorological Services issued a warning yesterday, urging residents to take necessary precautions.
According to the weather office, temperatures in //Karas have started dropping, with Karasburg recording a minimum of six degrees, Aus seven degrees and Noordoewer eight degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, according to Afri Weather, temperatures in Keetmanshoop will drop to zero on Saturday, warming slightly on Sunday to three degrees Celsius. Daytime temperatures will also be in the low 20s.
In Windhoek, cold temperatures can be expected as well – ranging between four degrees Celsius on Friday and dropping into the negatives the following day. By Monday, temperatures are expected to still be at zero degrees Celsius, while temperatures will cool off into the low 20s until Sunday.
Stay warm
At Okahandja, there will also be a chill in the air as from Saturday with temperatures of one degree Celsius, warming slightly on Sunday to three and to two on Monday. Daytime temperatures will still be in the high 20s.
Gobabis can expect temperatures below zero from Saturday and although temperatures will drop in Grootfontein as from Saturday, it will stay between two to four degrees Celsius until Monday. Daytime temperatures for Gobabis on Saturday and Sunday will be only 19 degrees Celsius, increasing slightly on Monday to 22, while Grootfontein’s daytime temperatures will be in the low 20s.
Dams
The total average level of Namibia’s dams this week stood at 82.6%, compared to the 86.3% of last season.
According to NamWater’s latest dam bulletin issued on Monday, five of the storage dams in Namibia are still more than 90% full.
In the central areas of Namibia, the average of dam levels stood at 61.7%, compared to last season’s 89.5%.
In the south, the average levels were 90.6%, compared to 91.8% last season.
In the east of the country, the total average of the dam levels is 37.3%, while last season it was 38.7%.
In other parts of the country, the Olushandja Dam in the Oshana Region is 15% full, while the Omaruru Delta Dam in Erongo and the Omatjenne Dam in Otjozondjupa are both empty.
