Another cold weekend ahead

Another cold weekend is looming for Namibians as temperatures are set to drop significantly in the south from Thursday, spreading to other parts of the country over the weekend.

Predictions by Afri Weather indicate that the minimum temperatures in Windhoek will drop to one degree Celsius on Friday and to zero on Saturday, while daytime temperatures will be just above 20 degrees.

In Gobabis, minimum temperatures will be below zero on both Friday and Saturday, with daytime temperatures expected between 20 to 23 degrees.

Moving north, Grootfontein’s temperatures will be about five degrees Celsius on Friday, dropping to three degrees on Saturday, with highs of 29 during the day.

Meanwhile, Keetmanshoop’s minimum temperatures will be about two degrees for the two days with maximums of 20 to 23.

Dam levels

In other news, the average level of Namibia’s dams this week stood at 56.1%, down from last week’s 79.1%.

Last season, the average level of the country’s dams was 81.3%.

According to NamWater’s latest dam bulletin issued on Monday, in the central areas of Namibia, the average dam levels stood at 54.9%, compared to last season’s 77.9%.

In the south, the average level of the dams stood at 67.8%, compared to last season when it was 87.1% full.

In the east of the country, the total average of the dam levels was 20.6%, while last season it was 34.9%.

In other parts of the country, the Omaruru Delta Dam located in the Erongo Region and the Omatjenne Dam in Otjozondjupa are empty. The Olushandja Dam in Oshana is 14.3% full.
