JUST IN: SPYL wants Menzies out
The Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) has condemned the "unlawful conduct" of Menzies Aviation and has called on all relevant authorities to restore order and the rule of law to ensure that operations at the Hosea Kutako International Airport continue unhindered.
In a statement, the ruling party's youth wing said Menzies' "self-belief of monopoly" is misleading to the public and they can no longer be allowed to cling onto the contract to provide ground-handling services at the airport with an "until death do us apart" mentality.
"Menzies' continued illegal presence at the Hosea Kutako International Airport and refusal to hand over cargo services to the lawful contractor is a direct sabotage of the Namibian economy and therefore it shall be rejected with the contempt it deserves. The Hosea Kutako International Airport is a strategic entry point to Namibia and it is of utmost importance to Namibia, hence its instability - as a result of the illegal conduct of Menzies - has the potential to paint a negative image of our country, subsequently compromising Namibia’s sovereignty and security," the statement read.
