Rundu restaurant introduces first sushi menu
New on the town's culinary scene
PS Restaurant in Rundu aims to make sushi available every day, allowing customers to order fresh platters any time.
PS Restaurant in Rundu has officially introduced sushi to the town’s food scene, becoming the first establishment to offer the Japanese delicacy on a daily basis.
Speaking to Ewi lyaNooli on Monday, restaurant manager Indileni Hamukoto said the move was inspired by customer demand and the desire to diversify local culinary options.
“We noticed many people asking for sushi, especially those who’ve lived or studied in other towns or abroad,” she said. “So we decided, why not bring it to Rundu?”
The restaurant, located behind Ngondo Combined School near the Rundu Trade First Centre, will now serve sushi platters starting at N$350. The price varies depending on the selection and quantity.
Hamukoto said the restaurant aims to make sushi available every day, allowing customers to order fresh platters any time. While promotions are not scheduled yet, she said specials will likely be incorporated into weekend packages, and updates will be shared on their TikTok and Instagram pages under PS Restaurant Rundu.
The right move
The restaurant has brought in experienced sushi chef Pedro Kaya to lead the introduction. Kaya described sushi as more than just food – he called it an art form.
“You use your hands, your attention, your love. It’s like drawing something important in the kitchen,” he said. “You need to be neat, clean and precise.”
Kaya, who has years of experience in the culinary industry, explained that a sushi platter typically takes him about 10 to 15 minutes to prepare, depending on the complexity and order size. However, for beginners, it can take up to 30 minutes due to the skill and care required.
“There are sharp knives involved, so you need focus. One wrong move and you could hurt yourself,” he said.
