Jazz, soul and swing await at Sandwerf Live

Music lovers can look forward to an evening of jazz, soul and electronic swing when the Yola-B Trio headlines the June edition of Sandwerf Live at Sandwerf Retreat on 27 June. Located about 70 kilometres south-east of Windhoek near Dordabis, Sandwerf Retreat has become known for offering visitors a blend of nature, culture and relaxation. The venue's monthly Sandwerf Live series aims to create intimate musical experiences by bringing audiences closer to talented performers in a uniquely Namibian setting.

This month's featured act is fronted by Namibian-born vocalist Beate Baumgartner, better known as Yola-B. Baumgartner began her musical journey in Windhoek, where she founded the all-female band Sweet Chilli at the age of 16. She later moved to Vienna, Austria, where she built a successful international career as a singer and performer, including appearances with the neo-swing and electronic dance music group DelaDap. Joining her on stage will be guitarist Sam Batola, originally from Congo Brazzaville, who has performed alongside several acclaimed African artists, and trumpeter Björn Roxin, whose musical career evolved from classical performance to jazz during his studies in Germany.

Together, the trio promises a diverse setlist featuring jazz standards associated with Diana Krall and Ella Fitzgerald, rhythm and blues classics by Tina Turner, Ray Charles and James Brown, as well as soul, South African favourites and their signature electronic swing sound. The concert follows a well-received performance by tenor Pierre van der Westhuizen and forms part of Sandwerf Live's ongoing mission to celebrate exceptional musical talent while fostering community and cultural exchange. Guests can opt for a full experience package that includes the concert, dinner, overnight accommodation and breakfast or choose to attend the concert and dinner only.

The event starts at 18:00 for 18:30 on Saturday, 27 June.
