MTC reaffirms multi-sector investment commitment
As part of its 30th anniversary celebrations hosted in Windhoek on Monday, MTC reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to Namibia’s national development agenda, pledging continued investment across key socio-economic sectors.
Speaking at the milestone event, MTC managing director Dr Licky Erastus underscored the company's evolving role in shaping Namibia’s development over the past three decades.
While celebrating MTC's past achievements, he emphasised the urgent need to continue innovating and expanding efforts to uplift communities.
"Yes, we have achieved significant social and economic progress in the past three decades, but the reality demands that we do more," Erastus said.
"We are therefore reaffirming our commitment to aiding, sustainably, sectors such as arts and culture, sports, education, health, poverty alleviation and entrepreneurship."
Education, he added, must take centre stage as Namibia prepares for a future driven by innovation and accountability.
“We must prioritise education so that we prepare a generation of innovators, a generation of servant leaders. It is our collective responsibility to build that generation by making meaningful investments today."
Erastus also expressed gratitude to MTC’s customers, staff, and the Namibian government for their support.
“We celebrate the Namibian government, who took a bold decision to start its own mobile telecommunications company,” he said.

Delivering the keynote message, Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare urged MTC to maintain digital sovereignty and ensure inclusive connectivity.
“We must deliberately have sovereignty on data... and make sure that every Namibian has equal access to quality connectivity,” he said, challenging the company to move from its current 98% network population coverage to 100%.
Over the years, MTC has led numerous national infrastructure and digitalisation projects.
Highlights include the 081Every1 campaign launched in 2017 with an investment of N$1 billion to close the connectivity gap and the trial launch of Namibia’s first 5G network in 2024.
The company also became the first Namibian state-owned entity to list on the Namibian Stock Exchange (NSX) in 2021.
“As we reflect on our journey, we celebrate not only our accomplishments but also the values that have guided us: innovation, integrity and a relentless pursuit of excellence,” Erastus said.
