The annual Pointbreak Open Water Swim returns to Lake Oanob Resort this weekend, celebrating 19 years as one of Namibia’s most established and anticipated open water swimming events.

Organised by OTB Sport, the competition is expected to attract approximately 200 swimmers from across the country. The field includes Namibia’s seasoned swimmers, recreational swimmers and families, with participants ranging in age from just three years old in the Kids Fun Event to competitors in their seventies.

The dam is currently sixty percent full, providing solid water levels and favourable conditions for what promises to be an exciting weekend of racing.

The 5 kilometre Adventure Swim, introduced in 2021, will take place on Saturday with a start scheduled between 10h15 and 10h30. Sunday’s programme begins with the 800 metre swim at 09h30, followed by the 2.1 kilometre event at 10h00. The popular Kids Fun Event will take place at 11h00, allowing young children to participate alongside parents or family members, with flotation devices and assistance permitted. Prize giving is expected to take place at approximately 12h00.

Adding to the excitement is the Pointbreak Challenge, introduced in 2025, which sees swimmers take on all three distances, 5 kilometres, 2.1 kilometres and 800 metres, over the course of the weekend.

The event has become a highlight on Namibia’s sporting calendar, offering competitive racing while maintaining a relaxed, family friendly atmosphere that makes it an enjoyable day out for all.

OTB Sport extended its appreciation to Pointbreak for 19 years of loyal sponsorship and continued support of open water swimming in Namibia, and to Lake Oanob Resort for hosting the event over the years.
