WHS dominates new Indongo Toyota Super Series
School sport provides thrills
Windhoek High School won the final of the inaugural Indongo Toyota Super Series on Saturday.
Scoring a total of 17 points to 10 in the Indongo Toyota Super Series final against the Windhoek Afrikaanse Privaatskool, Windhoek High School's 'blou bokke' claimed not only the golden trophy but also a N$30 000 cash prize.
With home-ground advantage for the winners, the final event of the inaugural Indongo Toyota Super Series took place at the FNB WHS Vegkop stadium on Saturday.
The stand was packed with supporters who came from far and near to share in their passion and love for the game of rugby.
The WHS first team emerged victorious in spite of the absence of the team captain.
“I am just grateful that despite having been a very physical game, no one from either team was injured and my team managed to play well together to help us emerge victorious,“ said WHS first team player Ray-Eez Feris.
Event organiser Shaun Powell said in an interview with Sports Wrap that the series took place over three weeks in Windhoek, Ondangwa and at the coast, with the final counting as the fourth week.
“Approximately eighteen schools participated in the Super Series with the qualifying teams from across the series coming together for the final,” Powell said.
Ten schools participated on Saturday, with Okahandja Sport School winning with 26 points to 5 in the under-13 game against Suiderhof, while WAP‘s under-14 team bagged a 29-0 win against WHS, followed by the under-15s from Walvis Bay Private High School bagging a 21-5 win against Dr Lemmer. The coastal Dolphins under-19A team played against Windhoek Technical School and lost by 26 points as the final score was 7-33.
Windhoek Gymnasium‘s under-14 and under-15 teams took first place in their respective age groups. Pionierspark Primary School won gold in the under-13 age group and Windhoek Technical School‘s under-19A team took first place, with the Dolphin Schools and Dr Lemmer taking second and third respectively.
