Mixed fortunes on Cape Town tours

Two of the strong contenders in Namibian schools rugby were in action in friendly matches during their pre-season tour to Cape Town on Saturday.
Windhoek Gymnasium’s first team, the Lions, scored eight tries on their way to beating Bishops High U19C by a 48-7 margin.
The try scorers for the winners were scrumhalf Zano van Wyk (two), the centre pairing of Stefan Gildenhuys (two) and Suramie Kambombo, right wing Revaldo Diergaardt, prop Herman Coetzee and flank Jorick Muir. The kicking points were added by JW Visagie.
Meanwhile, Windhoek Afrikaans Private School (Affies), title holders of the last completed Momentum U19 Super League seasons in 2018 and 2019, ended second-best on Saturday, losing their pre-season friendly against the Rondebosch High U19 second team by 11-26.

'Not too disappointed'
According to head coach Johan Zaayman, the Affies team took a long time to get into the game.
“We spent most of the first half just defending – although I must commend my boys for the great effort they put in during this period; our tacklers made some proper hits. We also conceded two tries through conceding turnovers to the opposition.
“We managed a few line-breaks in the second half, but then unfortunately these promising moves were killed off by knock-ons, or forward passes.
"One obviously wants to win every match you play and we certainly had opportunities that we could not finish, but a lot of good came out of this match and I am not too disappointed.”
Winslow Olivier scored Affies’ only try, while Mario van Wyk added two penalties.
Affies will take on another powerful opponent in Paul Roos today, while Windhoek Gymnasium’s next date is with the Rondebosch second team.
