Bank Windhoek hockey league concludes in fashion
The Bank Windhoek Indoor Hockey League produced emphatic results over the weekend, with the Windhoek Old Boys and DTS Women claiming the league title.
The Old Boys prevented the Saints from claiming another consecutive victory in the league, with the two teams playing a tense and competitive final which saw the former beating the latter 3-2.
“It was not an easy season for us but we managed to win it thanks to the boys and the fans. This was not about any individual but was more of a team effort throughout the season.
“I would like to thank Bank Windhoek for making this possible and as well as the organisers who gave us the opportunity to compete,” Old Boys captain Ernst Jacobs said.
The Saints and the Old Boys had dominated the season, which warranted a final worthy of historic status.
Stellar performance
Meanwhile, in the women’s premier league, defending champions DTS produced another stellar performance in the final to beat rivals Saints 1-0 in a showdown after a 2-2 draw.
DTS captain Anthea Coetzee said she was pleased with yet another victory after her team dominated the season.
“I am grateful for the wonderful team-mates I have and the managing team we have. I am happy with the victory because Saints did not make it easy for us, but we managed to do the job,” she said.
The women's first league was won by Saints as they beat Sparta 5-0, while the first league for the men was also taken by Saints after beating Sparta 4-3 in the final.
The men’s premier reserve league was won by the Old Boys after defeating Coastal Raiders 8-3 in the final.
Captain Bucko Bartlett praised his team for producing a perfect tactical display.
“The old heads kept their cool and the experience made us beat the Coastal Raiders in the final. It was an exceptional season for us and we are happy to have won,” he said.
DTS won the women’s premier reserve league following their 3-0 victory over Coastal Raiders.
Bank Windhoek has remained committed to supporting the league after it pledged N$300 000 for the season.
