Wanderers on top of the log
Women's rugby comes alive
Namibian rugby leagues produced thrilling results over the weekend, with both men's and women's teams displaying skill and talent.
The FNB Wanderers White Stallions on Saturday overpowered the FNB Rehoboth Rugby Club with 49 points to 24 in the only premier league game of the weekend on their home turf in Pioneers Park to pass FNB Kudus for the first position.
Kudus led the log race for the premier league title for a while with 19 points, but the hosts’ commanding seven-try scoreline ensured them two bonus points to soar past Kudus leading with three points.
Wanderers scored six tries in the first half, which were converted by flyhalf André van den Berg, to lead at half-time with 42 points to nine. Flyhalf Geraldo Beukes slotted three penalty kicks for the Red Bulls.
Brace for Hatting
In the second half, the visitors played better rugby, scoring two tries while the host got one themselves. Beukes converted one try and secured a drop goal for their tally.
The reserves Grant Cloete and Miquel Busch (flyhalf for reserve team) dotted down for the Red Bulls.
Left winger Nandivatu Karuuombe, outside center JC Greyling, inside center Bredell Wessels, right wing Ryan Coetzee and Van den Berg scored one try a piece while hooker Stefan Hatting got a brace.
