Drag race thrills
The Windhoek Motor Club had their club drags leg two at the Tony Rust Racetrack over the weekend.
Mark Sternagel recorded the best time in circuit racing with 66.63 seconds while Richard Slamet came second with a time of 68.37 seconds In the supercars category .
In the clubman’s class a category, Allan Martin won first place with a time of 70.23 seconds and Richard Slamet and Zachary Martin took second and third place.
Drag racing has been around since the early 1990s and the sport still continues to make waves in Namibia.
“Drag racing is one of the ten motorsport codes that the (Namibia Motorsport Federation) NMSF regulates. It’s a straight line race normally over a quarter mile, 402 metres head to head race between to vehicles or bikes,” said Bradley Ferreira, chairperson of the NMSF.
Drivers showed up in numbers to compete for top spots.
Newbie Herchelle Scholtz, who drives a VW Golf 7 R, had a great night. “I’ve had three races so far, two against the Toyota supra and one up against the Toyota Yaris and I won all three races," he said.
