Stars’ CAF ambitions clear
The current leaders of the Debmarine Premier League, African Stars, are eyeing a spot in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League if they win the domestic league.
The CAF Champions League is Africa's premier club football tournament.
Stars' stalwart Lesley Kozonguizi told Namibian Sun that with favourable conditions, any club would like to compete in the tournament.
Second bid
Since Namibia doesn’t have the right infrastructure to play tournaments of this magnitude, Kozonguizi said that they could consider playing at the Hage Geingob Stadium after CAF’s inspection.
If they happen to win the league, it will be the second time that the Stars compete in the CAF Championship. In December 2018, the club crashed out of the 2018/19 CAF Champions League competition after losing by the narrowest of margins against South Africa’s Orlando Pirates in the second leg.
The Namibian champions lost 0-1 to the Soweto giants from South Africa at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Saturday.
