Sonny Bill in heavyweight clash with UFC legend
Boxing
Mark Hunt has completed an epic body transformation ahead of his first fight in two years.
The MMA legend is set to square off against former All Blacks rugby international, Sonny Bill Williams, who is undefeated in nine professional fights.
The showdown at Ken Rosewall Arena in Sydney, Australia on Saturday will be Hunt’s first fight in two years after he previously slumped to a defeat against Paul Gallen in December 2020 following another two-year hiatus from fighting after his final UFC bout in December 2018.
The 48-year-old was never known for his ripped physique and made his name as the smaller guy who managed to knock out some of the best heavyweights in MMA history such as Mirko Cro Cop, Cheick Kongo, Roy Nelson, Frank Mir, and Derrick Lews.
However, during his spell on the sidelines, Hunt’s weight ballooned, and he reached 158 kg before being offered the chance to make a comeback against a big-name opponent.
“The Super Samoan” has joked that cutting cheesecakes from his diet has been the key to losing over 27 kg ahead of his boxing return. He will still have a huge weight advantage over Williams, who weighed 109 kg for his fight against Barry Hall earlier this year.
On Saturday, Hunt will be looking for his first win since knocking out Lewis in 2017 and a first-ever victory in boxing after falling short on three previous professional visits to the squared circle.
