Shalulile has what it takes – Garoeb
Football pundit and marketing officer for Southern Stream's first division, Rhonie ‘Rhuuksie’ Garoeb, believes that Namibian international footballer Peter Shalulile has what it takes to scoop the golden boot accolade back-to-back.
Garoeb is confident that Shalulile, affectionately known to many as ‘Sha Sha’ or ‘Pikes’, will more than likely scoop the top goalscorer award three times in a row.
"The type of football Masandawana plays and the quality they have in midfield will supply Shalulile sufficiently to score goals. Plus, the other strikers that are in the running are not as prolific as he is," Garoeb said.
Top performances
The reigning Player of the Season and top scorer, Shalulile, is in a seven-goal tie with Kaizer Chiefs' Bonfils Bimenyimana and Bradley Grobler of SuperSport United. The Namibian was sidelined by injury for almost two months but returned this month to score against Chippa United, with his side winning 2-1.
The Mamelodi Sundowns striker ended the 2021/22 campaign with 23 goals. Before that, in the 2019–2020 season, he lifted the award when he scored 16 goals.
Mamelodi Sundowns have set a new record for the most consecutive wins in the DStv Premiership, racking up their 12th straight triumph on Saturday night when they edged Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 at FNB Stadium.
Close again
Sundowns will be back in DStv Premiership action tomorrow when they visit TS Galaxy. Sunsowns lead the log with 46 points from 18 matches, ahead of Richards Bay with 29 points from 16 matches, followed by SuperSport United with 26 points from 16 matches. They look good and are virtually assured of winning their sixth consecutive premiership title if they continue their successful winning run.
