Pitso's Al Ahly get first CCL group win
Al Ahly moved to second spot in Group A after defeating Al-Merrikh 3-2 in a thrilling CAF Champions League encounter on Saturday night.
Pitso Mosimane recalled Percy Tau and Aliou Deng, who started on the bench during the week, with Luis Miquissone and Hamdi Fathi dropping to the bench.
Tau made his presence known early on as his fine pass found Mohamed Sherif, who put the home side ahead as early as the third minute with his first goal of the group phase.
Al Ahly continued to dominate and were rewarded with a second goal on 34 minutes, with Sherif completing his brace - which was his second one this week.
The Red Devils looked to be in control heading to the break until Tony Edjomariegwe pulled a goal back for the Sudanese outfit in the 42nd minute.
Al Merreikh evened up the score in the 69th minute thanks to Elsamani Saadeldin's first goal of the tournament, just minutes after Hussein El Shahat replaced Tau.
However, Mosimane's charges were back in front with 14 minutes left on the clock when Mustafa Karshoum deflected the ball into his own net.
Al Ahly were able to see out the closing stages without any mishaps to secure maximum points for the first time in the group, which leaves the side three points behind Mamelodi Sundowns who they face next.
