Twelve teams are expected to compete for top honours in the first leg of the MTC Namibia Netball Premier League, which is slated for Otjiwarongo’s Paresis Stadium this weekend.

MTC, the principal sponsor of the league, injected about N$4.8 million over the last three years, with 2023 being the last year of sponsorship.

The deal has benefitted close to 165 players who hail from various regions of the country and were empowered to showcase their talents. Each team will receive a grant of N$80 000 for preparations, with the winner expected to walk away with a whopping N$120 000.

The first runner-up will bag N$80 000, while the team that takes third place is expected to take home N$60 000.

Netball Namibia president Rebecca Goagoses said the grants are not enough to maintain and to travel for matches, so they picked Otjiwarongo as the central venue where all matches will be played to cut costs.

She further implored corporate companies to assist MTC by covering the financial shortfall as they continue to plough into the sports fraternity.

Teams which will be in action are Afrocat Lions, Eleven Arrows, Fatou Netball Club, Mighty Gunners, Namibia Correctional Service, Namibian Navy, Northern Fly Ballers, Otjozondjupa Nampol, Rebels, Tigers, Wanderers and Young Stars.
