“Downs move suicidal to Williams’ Bafana career”

KickoffA move to star-studded Mamelodi Sundowns might be suicidal to Ronwen Williams’ Bafana Bafana career, according to goalkeeping coach Alex Heredia.The Bafana Bafana captain is believed to be pushing for a move to the league champions following his recent admission that he would not mind joining them in order to taste Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions league football.

Masandawana currently has Denis Onyango, Kennedy Mweene, Reyaad Pieterse and Ricardo Goss in their goalkeeping department.

Sundowns also have Jody February who is on loan at Swallows.

“In my opinion, Sundowns already have many goalkeepers, four goalkeepers hey,” Heredia tells KickOff.

“From the economical point of view probably yes, but from a football point of view, he will have to compete with too many goalkeepers.

“But again Ronwen he’s quality and he’s a young goalkeeper.

Heredia added: “I understand he likes the challenge, but in my opinion, he should stay with Supersport United you know.

“But from an economical point of view going to Sundowns will be a better move for him, there’s no doubt about it.

“I don’t know if I would go for too big a competition against money, but I would prefer to stay for football and not play for money, it’s my opinion,” the coach said.

“Look, at the present moment, we have a serious problem with goalkeeping here, from the 16 PSL teams we have eight or nine foreigners.

“Getting game time in PSL it’s what carries goalkeepers to Bafana Bafana.”
