FIFA, CAF donate 286 footballs to Kavango East
The Kavango East education directorate received 286 footballs last week, donated by international sports governing bodies FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to boost grassroots football in the region.
The handover took place in Rundu, where Kavango East Football Association regional chairperson Patrick Mukoya said the footballs were distributed through the Namibia Football Association to support schools in developing young talent and increasing participation in sport.
Mukoya added that the donation will help schools strengthen training programmes and give learners better opportunities to develop their skills.
“These footballs will go a long way in helping our schools train young players and showcase their talent,” he said.
He added that the balls will be distributed to schools across the region.
Second and third division clubs, as well as women’s teams, are also expected to benefit from the initiative.
Inspiring young people
Speaking at the handover, acting Kavango East education director Patricia Kasoka welcomed the donation.
“This contribution is more than just sporting equipment. It is an investment in the future of our children,” she said.
Kasoka emphasised the importance of sport in community development and youth empowerment.
“Football has the power to unite communities, build character, promote discipline and inspire young people to dream beyond their circumstances,” she said.
Kasoka added that the initiative will improve learners’ physical activity and enhance opportunities for youth.
“Through this initiative, many learners across the region will now have improved opportunities to participate in sport, develop their talents and engage in healthy physical activities,” she said.
Kasoka thanked FIFA, CAF and the Namibia Football Association for selecting Kavango East as part of the programme.
“Let us continue working together to create opportunities for our learners to grow, compete and succeed, both on and off the field,” she said.
