Vries calls more fans to stadiums
Namibia Football Association (NFA) league director Mabos Vries is urging football lovers to flock stadiums, after he announced that all systems are in place for the Namibia Premier Football League season to restart this coming weekend.
The league has been on a break since the festive season.
The NFA however released fixtures for the upcoming weekend with a few teams set to battle for supremacy and bragging rights.
Speaking to Sport Wrap TV, Vries expressed excitement towards the remaining matches.
“I can say that all systems are in place for the men’s league to continue.
“We can all see on the log table that this is shaping up as another very interesting season, because the teams are very close to each other.
‘’All I am asking is for the fans to flock the stadiums in order to help us attract sponsors,” Vries said.
The NFA league director also expressed satisfaction with the start of the FNB Women’s Super League.
He has reiterated the calls to have more football fans supporting the women’s game too.
The league director is adamant that the future of the women’s game is bright and therefore needs all the support it can get.
“It is important to thank First National Bank Namibia for their generosity of sponsoring the football league.
“The league already started this past weekend and it will continue this coming weekend.
“I want the fans to come in numbers and support the women’s game too,” he said.
Stadium concerns
Vries further highlighted issues pertaining the availability of football stadiums for the FNB Women’s Super League matches.
The NFA technical centre in Windhoek is currently not suitable for football matches.
“This is the reason why there is a bit of a challenge with the women’s football matches in Windhoek.
“We have however managed to use the Khomasdal Stadium for now.
“All in all, I am happy with the way are turning out and hoping for a big season in terms of the women’s game.”
African Stars FC are the current champions of the men’s premier league, while Beauties FC are the champions of the women’s league.
Vries expects tighter competition this time around, with teams aiming to claim glory this season.
