Vineta Stadium ready to host NAPSO athletes

Walvis Bay Private School will host a spirited and exciting weekend of athletics for member schools of NAPSO (Namibia Private Schools Organisation) at the Vineta Sports Stadium in Swakopmund on Friday and Saturday.
The event will see 21 private schools from all over the country and an expected 1 200 participants of both primary and secondary schools competing in the age groups Under-7 to U19.
Network TV’s production team will bring viewers our live broadcast of the event on both days. The live link on Boxcast will be shared on the Facebook page of My Zone.
Friday’s programme starts with the team entrances and welcoming speeches, before the first events from 08:30 until approximately 20:00.
The Saturday programme from 08:00 will ultimately culminate in the hand-over to the award winners at around 16:30.
According to the event organiser, Henry Kemp of Walvis Bay Private School, the occasion is aimed at creating and increasing opportunities for learners to participate.
“The event is more about participation than it is about competition. It’s for learners to have fun, get together and build relationships. We also use this platform to keep learners in shape for the upcoming NAPSO sports weekend that is scheduled to place at Elnatan, Stampriet.”
This year’s theme is “Lego”. Kemp explained that Lego means loving every opportunity for growth.
“We are here to teach youngsters to learn and to accommodate good sportsmanship as well as camaraderie amongst each other. We are creating an opportunity for learners to enjoy everything as much as possible.”
Kemp added that many sponsors make NAPSO a reality. “Our main sponsors for this year’s NAPSO athletics weekend are Coca-Cola and Standard Bank. We would like to acknowledge their input.”
Kemp encouraged the Swakopmund community to come out in numbers to support the event.
“Come by and enjoy the different codes on offer. Come support all teams and not just your team. If you have small kids from three to 10 years, bring them along. We have everything sorted. Come support and watch the kids play. This event will be a huge financial boost for the coastal community.”
