Today at the African Games

Inspired by Anri Krugel Greeff’s silver in the women’s criterium two days ago, the Namibian road cycling team will be back in action at the African Games in Accra, Ghana for the next three days.
Against tough opposition from teams such as South Africa and the rest of the continent, the Namibians will take on the women’s team time trial today, depending on Greeff, Jaen-Marie Mostert, Olivia Shililifa and Monique du Plessis in striving to add to the country’s medal tally.
The women’s event (three laps of a 14.9 km course = 44.7 km) will be followed by the men’s team time trial (four laps, 59 km), where Danzel de Koe, Adrian Key, Kevin Lowe and Martin Freyer will be the Namibian contestants.
The individual time trials are held on Friday and the mixed relay time trial on Saturday.
• Ahead of the African Games’ swimming programme coming to an end with the last finals yesterday evening, Namibia was placed in 12th position on the overall log, with a total of six medals so far.
Egypt has been the powerhouse at the top of the standings with a mammoth 100 medals (59 gold), way ahead of Nigeria (54 medals, 22 gold), Algeria (70 medals, 19 gold) and South Africa (68 medals, 18 gold).
• The men’s cricket tournament starts Sunday and the five-day athletics schedule starts Monday.
