Thirty athletes selected for AUSC Region 5 Games

A separate team has been selected for the African U18 and U20 championship in Nigeria.
The Namibian track and field team has been selected to compete at the upcoming AUSC Region Five Games.
The athletics programme is expected to be hosted from 9 to 12 July at Swakopmund, due to Windhoek’s Independence Stadium not being recognised as up to standard by World Athletics’ requirements.
Zidane Gawaseb of Erongo and Karina Theunissen of Khomas have been confirmed as the coaches of the boys and girls groups, respectively. Their respective team managers are Malakia Malakia from Ohangwena and Theresia Nambambi from Khomas.
As a warm-up event, some of the selected athletes competed in the Khomas Regional senior championship in Windhoek’s Independence Stadium last Saturday.
For example, sprinter Ruano de Carvalho delivered faster times in both the 100 and 200 last weekend (10.69 and 21.51) than during the Namibia School Sport Union (NSSU)’s national championship in early May (10.84 and 21.60).
High jumper Benjamin Hendrickse won both these competitons reaching the same height (2.00 metres).

Magano Naseb (U20) 200m / Eustace Springbok (U20) 400m / Martin Nghililewenga (U18) 100m and 200m / Caleb Bessinger (U18) 100m and 200m / Michescho Mouton (U18) 100m / Mat-Reece Isaaks (U18) 1500m and 3000m / Jaco Potgieter (U18) 110m hurdles / Christo van Rooyen (U18) 400m hurdles / Lumé Janse van Rensburg (U18) 100m hurdles / Yoritha Delie (U18) 400m / Marike Weitz (U18) shot put and discus throw / Ansune Smith (U18) hammer throw / Arizhia van der Walt (U18) high jump.
