Stars held captive in goalless clash
Clubs in the Debmarine Premiership that threatened to derail the rest of the competition with a boycott have backtracked on their decision and honoured their league responsibilities this past weekend.
Clubs threatened to boycott by not playing the remaining fixtures of the championship until their demands for additional funding were met.
Five matches were completed this past weekend in the soccer premiership of the Namibian Football Association.
Civics were victorious on Friday, while Life Fighters achieved an excellent victory against Blue Waters in Otjiwarongo on Saturday.
The local heroes, Life Fighters, thrashed Blue Waters from Walvis Bay by four goals to zero.
Julinho Sporting against Eleven Arrows as well as Citizens versus Young African had to settle for a draw, while African Stars and Tigers achieved a goalless result.
The weekend's results are as follows:
On Friday at the Khomasdal Stadium, Black Africa scored one goal versus Civics' two goals. In Gobabis at the Legare Stadium, Young African score one versus Citizens' one.
On Saturday in Otjiwarongo at the Mokati Stadium, Life Fighters scored four versus Blue Waters 0.
At Rundu Stadium, Julinho Sporting scored one versus Eleven Arrows' one. In the capital at the SKW Stadium, African Stars scored 0 versus Tigers 0.
Saturday: FNB Women's Super League:
Okahandja: Nau Aib Stadium, Okahandja Football Club 1 versus Right Way FC 1.
Starlile (Stars) versus Ingwe (Tigers):
The showdown at SKW was attended by a few thousand football enthusiasts, who were predominantly Starlile supporters.
Those few Ingwe fans that pitched up for the encounter must have been pleased by their team's superb effort to curb the log leaders to a goalless draw in front of a huge fan base.
Ingwe matched African Stars in all aspects of the game. Too bad the clash had no goals to support the players' effort on the night. - [email protected]
